We helped Sankofa Haus evolve from pop-up projection mapping events to a fully immersive venue with permanent installations that make it one of the most unique cultural spaces in the South Bronx in New York City, an area now flourishing with new life.

The challenge with pop-up events was setting up projection mapping from scratch each time and working around the "L-shaped" layout of the main room, where walls varied in length and required precision mapping.

Technology Hurdles
Early on, the team faced frequent HDMI connection failures and had to manage a lot of cabling. They also needed to streamline the setup process for smoother live recording.

During the early pop-ups, Halucinated used three Optoma short-throw projectors to map the longer wall and shorter "DJ wall" floor-to-ceiling, making the venue feel fully immersive.

Custom animations were designed and curated for special occasions (e.g., DJ Spynfo's 40th Birthday included projection-mapped visuals on the ceiling for an out-of-this-borough experience).

For Halucinated’s own 10-year anniversary celebration, they covered framed photos of iconic Black musicians like Whitney Houston and the Jackson 5 with white static cling, projection-mapping visual art from Steve Lucin’s portfolio onto them—a personal, artistic touch that wowed attendees. For Halloween, we made the frames show spooky ghosts and eyeballs.

The permanent setup involved upgrading to Epson short-throw laser projectors, installed for easy plug-and-play operation. Now, Halucinated only needs to plug in their laptop and MIDI controller for instant VJing.
